THE TRIAD OF THE ALSTER LAKES

The Alster takes on many forms from the source to its mouth – but the Kleine Alster undoubtedly has the most elegant surroundings. It combines with the Binnenalster (Inner Alster) and Außenalster (Outer Alster) to form a unique triad of urban lakes that lend Hamburg’s city centre its unmistakable character. In addition, the Kleine Alster is the meeting point for Hamburg’s feathered friends: the Alster swans have the best view of the Reese-Haus.
